Winter viruses are serious - protect yourself early

Flu, COVID-19, and RSV are responsible for hundreds of thousands of hospital admissions every winter in the UK. Flu alone kills between 11,000 and 26,000 people in England during a typical season. Vaccination is the single most effective way to reduce your risk - and the risk you pose to vulnerable family members and colleagues around you.

Private vaccination at HHCC means no queues and no waiting lists. Our clinicians can advise which vaccines are right for you, and flu and COVID-19 vaccines can be given at the same appointment.

This winter’s vaccines

🌡️

Seasonal flu

This season’s trivalent vaccine, covering the three strains expected this winter. A cell-based vaccine from 6 months to 64 years, and an adjuvanted vaccine usually from 65. Protection builds over about two weeks.

🦠

COVID-19 booster

For adults and children aged 12 and over, and it can be given at the same visit as your flu vaccine. You need to be well on the day, and not have had a COVID-19 vaccine in the last 3 months.

🫁

RSV

For all adults aged 60 and over. A single injection that offers long-term protection. Please leave at least 7 days between your RSV and flu vaccines.

🛡️

Pneumonia (PCV20): new

Protects against 20 strains of the bacteria that can cause pneumonia, meningitis and sepsis, in a single injection. It replaces the older PPV23 vaccine. For anyone aged 2 and over, including if you had PPV23 more than a year ago.

💉

Shingles

A course of two doses at least 8 weeks apart, and more than 90% effective. We recommend it from age 50, including if you have had a shingles vaccine before.

Frequently asked questions

When will flu vaccinations be available?
Flu vaccinations are available at HHCC now for adults and children from 6 months of age. Current advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), which advises the UK Government on vaccination, recommends vaccination from September for children and pregnant women, with most adults advised to have their flu vaccination from 1 October. This is because protection can reduce over time, and later vaccination helps maintain protection during the period when flu is most likely to circulate. At HHCC, as a private provider, we are making flu vaccination available from now to those who wish to be vaccinated earlier. For those for whom vaccination from 1 October is generally recommended, we will be happy to advise on the most appropriate timing based on individual circumstances.
Can I get flu and COVID together?
Yes. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines can safely be given at the same appointment.
Does insurance cover this?
We are a self-pay service and do not bill insurers directly. Some employer or private policies reimburse seasonal jabs, so we provide an itemised invoice you can submit to claim the cost back yourself.
Is RSV right for me?
We offer RSV vaccination to all adults aged 60 and over. It is a single injection. Please leave at least 7 days between your RSV vaccine and your flu vaccine.
Is the trivalent flu vaccine less protective?
No. One strain, B/Yamagata, has not been found circulating naturally since 2020, so it is no longer included. This season’s vaccines protect against the three strains expected to circulate: two influenza A strains and one influenza B strain.
I am allergic to eggs. Can I have the flu vaccine?
Yes. The cell-based vaccine is egg-free, and it is the one we use for anyone with an egg allergy.
