What is an Electrocardiogram (ECG)?

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple, painless test used to check your heart's rhythm and electrical activity. It helps diagnose and monitor a wide range of conditions - including coronary heart disease, where the heart's blood supply becomes blocked by a build-up of fatty substances.

Your heart relies on a complex network of cells - often called the heart's electrical system - to pump blood accurately around your body. An ECG captures the signals produced by your heart with each beat, giving your clinical team a detailed picture of your cardiac health.

Painless & Non-Invasive

The test is entirely painless. Small electrode pads are placed on your chest - nothing more. You can carry on with normal daily activities throughout.

Continuous Recording

Unlike a standard ECG taken in clinic (which lasts just seconds), a Holter monitor records continuously - capturing rhythm abnormalities that may only occur occasionally.

Clinically Validated

Results are reviewed by qualified cardiologists and delivered as a comprehensive clinical report directly to your GP or consultant.

What's an ambulatory ECG?

An ambulatory ECG records your heart's activity over an extended period - from 24 hours up to 14 days - as you go about your normal daily life. Also known as a Holter monitor, it's ideal when symptoms appear intermittently and a resting ECG hasn't captured the cause.

How our prices compare

Our prices are benchmarked against the private healthcare market: GP clinics typically charge £110–£370, cardiology clinics £210–£960, and home-based services £265–£500. We offer cardiologist-reviewed, home-delivered monitoring at accessible GP clinic rates - significantly below Harley Street and hospital pricing.

How do I prepare for the test?

The great news is - you won't need to prepare much at all. Our clinical team will explain everything, and the monitor will be sent directly to you with full instructions.

👕

Wear loose, comfortable clothing

A shirt or top that's easy to open slightly for electrode placement. Avoid tight-fitting tops on the day you fit the monitor.

🚿

Showering & bathing

Simply remove the monitor and pads to shower or bathe, then refit when fully dry. The device must not get wet.

📓

Keep your symptom diary

Note down any palpitations, dizziness, or chest discomfort with the time of day - this helps your cardiologist correlate readings with your experience.

📱

Avoid strong electromagnetic fields

Keep the monitor away from magnets and electric blankets. Mobile phones and everyday electronics are fine.

🏃

Carry on as normal

Continue your usual exercise, work, and daily routine. The more you live normally, the more representative your recording will be.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fit the monitor myself?

Yes - that's exactly the point of our direct-to-patient service. Each kit includes a step-by-step instructional video and multi-language written guide. Most patients fit the monitor in under 10 minutes.

Do I need a GP referral?

No referral is required for our private service. You can book directly online or by phone. If your symptoms suggest a cardiac investigation is appropriate, our clinical team will confirm this before dispatch.

How long until I receive my results?

Once we receive your returned device, cardiologist analysis is typically completed within 48–72 hours. Your full clinical report is then sent directly to your nominated GP or specialist.

Can I shower or exercise while wearing it?

You can exercise normally - in fact, we encourage it for an accurate recording. Simply remove the monitor and electrodes before bathing or showering, then refit when you're completely dry.

Which duration should I choose?

This depends on how frequently your symptoms occur. Daily symptoms? 24 hours may suffice. Occasional episodes? 7 or 14 days gives maximum diagnostic coverage. Our team is happy to advise.

Is the test covered by insurance?

We are a private, self-pay service and do not bill insurers directly. Some policies may reimburse monitoring of this kind, so we provide a fully itemised invoice you can submit to claim the cost back yourself.
