Flu vaccines available this season (2023/2024):

Cell-Based Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine (QIVc)

This vaccine provides a high level of protection against the 4 prevalent strains of circulating flu this season. Manufactured in specific cell cultures, this vaccine has been the first choice of both NHS and Private providers in the under 65 population in previous flu seasons. We are offering this vaccine routinely to patients age 18-64 years but it can be given safely from age 2 years to children who are unable to have the live nasal flu vaccine.

Adjuvanted Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine (aQIV)

This vaccine is routinely offered to patients age 65 years and over. aQIV provides a high level of protection against the 4 prevalent strains of circulating flu this season and contains an adjuvant, an agent designed to elicit a better immune response to the vaccine. This is particularly important as the immune system ages.

Egg-based Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine (QIVe)

This is the standard flu vaccine which provides adequate protection against the 4 circulating strains of flu this season. Manufactured in egg cells, this vaccine contains traces of egg protein and is therefore not suitable for patients with egg-allergy. This vaccine, however, has a wide eligibility criteria and can be offered from age 6 months.
