August 2022
We are writing to address the announcement issued by The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), on 10 August 2022, regarding the detection of poliovirus type 2 (PV2), in sewage systems in London.
In response to this alert, the Joint Committee on Vaccination (JCVI) have launched a vaccination campaign for children to reduce the risk of Vaccine Derived Polio Virus Type 2 (VDPV2) transmission in the community. Please see link below for more details:
In view of this, all incompletely immunised individuals will remain eligible for catch up vaccination and a supplementary Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) will now be offered to children between 1 and 9 across all the London Boroughs, even if they have completed a full course of polio vaccination previously.
As you may be aware, this vaccination programme is being rolled out by the National Health Service (NHS) and providers are contacting eligible patients as a matter of urgency.
At HHCC, as a health service provider, we feel it is important for all children to be offered supplementary vaccination and wanted to inform you that we are able to offer an additional dose of an Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV), in line with the recommendations of the JCVI.
